How to Unlock Overwatch 2 Competitive Mode

It is almost the end of 2022, and one of the most anticipated PvP games of the year is finally here. Of course, I am talking about Overwatch 2 here. COD is yet to come, LOL. You can already tell that the game is getting millions of players at the moment, by looking at the long queues. Yesterday, my Queue was stuck at 30000 for almost 2 hours.

I am pretty sure that nobody had expected just a year ago that we are on the verge of getting a new Overwatch game. I mean, it is not really a new game, but at the same time, it kind of is.

One might call Overwatch 2 the same as Overwatch 1, as the game looks and feel more or less the same. But other than that, I personally don’t think that they are similar.

The biggest difference is obviously the 5v5 mode in Overwatch 2, versus the 6v6 mode in Overwatch 1. There can only be a single Tank in a match, now. It is in my opinion the biggest change.

On top of that, a collection of new playable characters and maps has been added to the roster as well. And not to forget, a brand-new mode known as Push.

Anyway, Overwatch 2 is here to please all kinds of players, casuals, and tryhards. Casual players can obviously stick to the Unranked playlist, and not care about Rank at all.

But what about people who take this game very seriously? Well, for them, the competitive mode is there. But most of you won’t get access to the competitive mode of Overwatch 2 right away. You need to grind a bit before you can play Overwatch 2 Competitive.

If you are new to the game, then at this moment, if you try to access Competitive, you might get the following message:

Unavailable because one or more party members needs to complete the Competitive Play Challenge

Since Overwatch 2 is free-to-play, the challenges inside it have become harder compared to what they were in Overwatch 1. In the OG Overwatch, I remember that you just needed to play 10 matches in the Unranked playlist to unlock the Competitive Modes. Unfortunately, that is not the case with Overwatch 2.

If you are new to Overwatch, and you haven’t played a competitive match ever, you need to Win 50 games in Quick Play to Unlock the Competitive Game Modes.

Yes, you not only have to play 50 matches but win them as well. You can track the challenge by going to the Challenges menu and then selecting the ‘COMPETITIVE’ tab. You will find all your challenges there.

If you are new to the game then getting 50 wins might prove to be difficult. My advice would be, you either play with your friends or join a discord of one of the Overwatch Twitch Streamers, and grab players from there. Trust me, getting wins become way easier when you have someone to give calls.
