In the game Darkest Dungeon 2, you need to use the in-game currency, called the ‘Candles of Hope,’ to unlock the new characters. Now, if you’re wondering how you get these Hope Candles, the answer is to simply progress in the game. Upon the completion of a run, or in the case that you die, all the Candles of Hope that you got, simply get added to your account.
Here are the steps that you need to follow to use the Candles of Hope and then unlock the new characters in the game, Darkest Dungeon 2:
- Firstly, in a new run, you will have to go to the Altar of Hope.
- Then, you need to head to the Living City.
- Now, here, you can select your desired hero and use your hope candles to unlock their Hero Path.
- Lastly, you can now head over to the Crossroads and choose the unlocked Hero.
After you have unlocked all the characters to upgrade the Heroes, you can head back to the Living City. The benefit that you receive for doing so is that you won’t have to worry about cycling them and your upgraded characters will live longer too.
At the beginning of the game, four characters are unlocked for free, namely Grave Robber, Highwayman, the Man-At-Arms, and Plague Doctor. However, as you keep on progressing in the game, the following characters become available for you to unlock:
- Jester
- Bounty Hunter
- Vestal
- Hellion
- Occultist
- Flagellant
- Runaway
You can also use Candles of Hope to unlock the memories of the characters to get to know about them if you are someone who has an interest in the game’s lore.
