Hel Tears – Among the many resources you’ll come across in GOW: Ragnarok, one certainly difficult-to-find resource is the Essence of Hel.
You won’t find it just lying around as a bunch of other stuff, you’ll have to look at specific places, and this probably will be time-consuming.
Additionally, you won’t need it in the absolute beginning of the game, hence it’s available to you once you’ve crossed a certain level.

How to get Essence of Hel in God of War Ragnarok
What you’ll want to be on the lookout for will be the Hel Tears. There are six of these split across the realm, and once you do come across one, you have to close it. Once you do the same you’ll get rewarded.
However, it is given that the Essence of Hel will be available to you only after you’ve completed the main story of the game.
So anyone who hasn’t been able to complete it by now, we suggest for you visit at a later time, as some of the information we’re about to give you might spoil the storyline for you.
Moving on, once you’ve almost done with the main story, you’ll eventually come across the “Reunion main quest”. This is exactly when you’ll start coming across these Hel Tears.
In this quest, Atreus, and Kratos, as the name of the quest suggests, reunites to complete a quest.
In it, they’re required to correct a wrongdoing, this is the mistake that Atreus made, which was to release Garm.
They’ll be fixing the wrongdoing by channeling Fenrir’s soul into Garm. While you’re doing this quest, you’ll come across a bunch of these Hel Tears.
As we’ve mentioned earlier, there are precisely six of these Hel Tears. You’ll receive one Essence of Hel every time you claim/close one of these.
As there are only six of these, locating these shouldn’t be too hard. However, there’s allegedly only one of these Hel Tears that spawns at the same place for everyone. The other ones are randomized.
Anyway, you’ll come across the first one at Sindri, the blacksmith’s house.
Now that you’ve claimed the Hel Tears, the quest shall carry on, and you’re supposed to make your way back to Helheim.
