COD Vanguard Compiling Shaders – Experiencing the “Compiling Shaders” in Call of Duty Vanguard? Don’t worry, we got you.

Fix for the Compiling Shaders bug in COD Vanguard

What is this bug all about?

It is a bug where players are getting a message on top of their screens that says “Compiling shaders to optimize performance during gameplay“. And different people are witnessing different variants of this bug. For some the Compiling shaders to optimize performance during gameplay is stuck at 0% and for some the message is popping up repeatedly even after the installation has been completed once.

This is really frustrating as this hinders the gameplay experience. And if someone tries to play the game when the shaders installation is going on, the performance in the game will drop horribly for them. The game already has plenty of errors to begin with. The last thing players need, is more issues like this popping up every hour.

How to fix this bug

People who have already played Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, should know that there was a similar bug in those game. It got fixed so many times, but kept on coming back. It was probably one of the longest running bugs in BOCW. The same is the case with COD Vanguard.

Now, there can be two reasons for why the installation progress is stuck at 0% for you. Either, it is really bugged or you do not have a powerful enough PC where the installation would be much faster. We tested this on two systems, the first one is my personal pc, that has a Ryzen 5 5600x, paired with RTX 3070 and a Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 SSD, and the other one I used had an i3 8100 and GTX 1650(No SSD). And obviously the installation on the Ryzen PC was flawless and much faster. The compiling did get stuck on the i3-8100 PC and all we did was restart the game. After the restart, the installation did take some time, but it was completed.

But if the message is popping up repeatedly even after you have completed the installation once, then this is what you need to do:

  1. Start the game
  2. Go Settings
  3. Click on Graphics Tab
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the Display
  5. Look for the option Restart Shaders Compilation
COD Vanguard - Restart Shader Compilation
  6. Click on it
  7. And wait for the installation to be completed

This setting deletes your shader cache and recompiles all shaders from the beginning. You have to make sure that the compilation is completed, as it will prevent performance issues when playing on a map for the very first time.

If you have updated your GPU drivers, then you will have to do this again.

If the problem you are facing is a serious one, then the best option would be contacting the support. I would suggest that you take a look at the official Vanguard Reddit. You will find a lot of players discussing these exact same issues.

That’s all folks!
