Spider-Man PC Download Stuck on Steam | How to fix

Spider-Man PC download stuck – If you came here looking for more intel on the ‘Spider-Man download stuck’ issue on Steam, then you are at the right place. A lot of users are facing this issue. Don’t worry, you are not alone.

The time has finally come! One of the most anticipated console ports of 2022, is finally here. As we all know, Marvel’s Spider-Man is a 2018 action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The Remastered or the 2022 version of the game brings a significant visual upgrade to the table.

Unfortunately, the PC release of Spider-Man is not treating everyone equally, if you ask me. Spider-Man on Steam is experiencing a lot of problems where either the download of the game is getting stuck after a certain point or the download is extremely slow.

I have seen a lot of discussions on the forums already. And it looks like, the installation/download bar is reluctant to move or make any sort of progress for some players, no matter what they do. This issue, so far, looks exclusive to Steam users, as people who have bought the game on Epic Games Store or PS5 haven’t reported anything of this sort.

Now, this makes sense in the case of users who do not have a high-speed network. But, to my surprise, I am also seeing users with fiber connections and high download speeds, complain about this.

Now the question is, is this some sort of bug or glitch? Does this require any specific fix?

How to fix the “Spider-Man PC Download Stuck” issue on Steam

Judging from my experiences, I would say, if a game doesn’t have download issues at the release date, then it is definitely not an AAA title. These have become really common nowadays.

At the start of 2022, people were facing something similar with God of War PC. Most of the time, the reason behind slow download speeds is most likely overloaded servers. Hundreds of thousands of people are trying to download the game at the same time. If you just wait a few hours after the release, you can avoid problems like these.

Spider-Man download stuck on Steam Fixed

Anyway, before we move any further in this article, there is some basic stuff that I would like you to try, and these fixes work most of the time:

  • Pause your Spider-Man download on Steam, and wait for your download speed to hit 0. As soon as it does, resume the download
  • If you are experiencing this issue on Epic Games, then you can do the exact same thing there, as well. Pause the download, wait for the download speed and write speed to hit 0, and resume
  • The second thing you can do is, restart Steam or Epic Games Store, or your entire PC (Works every time)
  • Finally, restart the entire download. It doesn’t matter, even if you have already downloaded a hefty chunk. It is better than being stuck at the same place for a whole day. Cancel the download > Go to your Steam Library > Right-click on Spider-Man Remastered > Select ‘Manage’, then ‘Uninstall’ to uninstall the game > Start the download again

What I think might actually be the issue

You see, there could be a huge possibility, that for some of you, the download is not actually stuck. And, there is no bug or glitch involved in this.

Steam has evolved a lot in the last few years. It doesn’t handle downloads the way it used to, a few years ago. If you check your Spider-Man download on Steam, you will notice 2 icons under the download. The first one is ‘downloaded’, and the second one is ‘installed’.

Steam, now, downloads and installs the game side-by-side. Which is way different from what things used to be a few years ago.

Previously, Steam used to download all the files from the servers on the PCs first, then the installation used to take place. Now, both processes take place at the same time.

And, then there are other obvious prerequisites like the C++ Redistributable and the latest DirectX, that Steam proceeds to install automatically, as well.

The file size of Spider-Man is close to 75 GB. So, by no means, it is a small game. On top of that, it is an open world. So all you have to do is wait for a while. The process did not take much longer for me as I am using a WD SN850 NVMe SSD that has Read and Write speeds of up to 7000 MB/s and 5300 MB/s respectively. But for normal HDD users, even if they have a 7200 RPM one, the entire installation process is going to take some time. And there is no way to speed up the procedure.
