If we talk about the game first, Grand Chase is a side-scrolling action RPG. It is an always-online title that has its graphics inspired from anime. Anyone can join in on the action with arrow and Z keys, with 20 unique and charming characters. There are various dungeons in a fantasy setting and online real-time PvP. Collect equipment and learn skills to enjoy jam packed action in dungeons and PvP. The game is available on Steam and is completely free-to-play. If you like 2D side-scrollers, then I would highly recommend that you try this.

Unfortunately, Grand Chase currently suffers with some technical issues. The game is crashing for a lot of people. And for some it won’t even launch or start.

GrandChase is crashing when people, are trying to change graphics settings, or they are trying to change the resolution. The situation is quite messy at the moment. There are plenty of posts like this on the Steam discussions page of GrandChase:

My PC specs are Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB RAM DDR4 and a RX 550 with 2GB as a graphic card.

In the server menu, the game freezes and it seems like my graphic card is not responding to the game. I’ve got some black screens between those crashes and after some time either the game simply closes or I get a bluescreen.

I play other games like FF XVI and use my PC with no problems at all, so I’m discarding a hardware issue.

Is anyone experiencing something similar? What was the solution?

Therefore, I decided to put up a troubleshooting guide consisting of various fixes that might help you.

How to fix the crashes and launch issues

Fix #1

The first fix comes from Steam user /Taee:

  1. Go to the game folder
  2. Right click on GrandChase.exe
  3. Select Properties
  4. Click on the Compatibility Tab
  5. Compatibility mode: Windows XP Service Pack 3
  6. Check “Run this program as an admin”

This worked for me after some testing

Fix #2

The second fix comes from Steam user /Hop. This is for people for whom the game is crashing when changing screen resolution or graphics settings:

  1. Press alt+enter to go full screen
  2. Change resolution to 1920×1080 in options

Fix #3

The third fix comes from user /Velcudez:

Verify the Integrity of the game. It should fix your crash issues, it does work for me.

  1. Go to Library
  2. Right Click on GrandChase
  3. Properties
  4. Local files
  5. Verify integrity of game files
  6. And wait until it’s done

Fix #4

[Note: This fix requires you to work with the Windows Registry Editor. Do it at your own risk.]

The fourth fix comes from Steam user /brokulis. This is fix is for those who are having issues with LAV (part of K-Lite Codec Pack) opening uncountable times until the game crashes, here’s the solution:

  1. On the search bar, search regedit and open it as administrator by right-clicking on it
  2. Go to this location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\LAV\Audio\Blacklist
  3. Right-click on the blank space of the folder and add two new DWORD value(Main.exe and GrandChase.exe)
  4. Set both as value 1
  5. Restart your PC

These are all the fixes that I have for you at the moment. The servers of the game are at full load. So you might experience problems more than usual. I am constantly checking the forums, and as soon as something new pops up, I will post it here
