And some are complaining that the game is simply crashing at startup, or won’t launch at all. This guide will show you some steps on how to fix those issues.

How to fix Total War Warhammer 3 Crashing when Alt-Tabbing

People are constantly complaining over the forums that the game is crashing as soon as they’re trying to alt+tab to a different window. This is mainly happening to users, who are playing the game in full-screen.

In rare cases, the game can become unstable and crash when ALT+Tabbing between active windows while running in full-screen mode.

In order to fix this issue try this solution recommended by the developers. Set your game to run in windowed mode by enabling the ‘Run in Window’ option in the graphics settings panel, or avoid ALT+Tabbing while the game is open.

Many users have confirmed that this fix works. So, go ahead and try it.

How to fix Total War Warhammer 3 Won’t Launch and Crash at Startup issue

If the Total War Warhammer 3 won’t launch, and is constantly crashing at startup for you, don’t worry. The devs are recommended fixes for that, as well:

Solution 1: Restart your computer & verify game files

You could be experiencing a computer memory/resource related issue or corruption in your extracted game files. Restart your computer and verify your game files as referenced below.

How to verify game files:

  1. From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu,
  2. Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game files… button,
  3. Steam will verify the game’s files.

Solution 2: Add STEAM/game to your Antivirus & Firewall Exceptions

Your antivirus/firewall programs could be stopping STEAM/the game from functioning correctly.

A quick and simple test to help rule out your Anti-virus & Firewall software as a possible cause is to temporarily disable them to check whether that resolves your issue.

Further to this, you should ensure that both STEAM and Total War Warhammer 3 has been added to the exclusion list of your Anti-virus & Firewall programs to help minimize the potential for any issues.

Solution 3: Update your Nvidia Driver to 511.79 or AMD Driver to 22.2.2

Some of the most common game crashing and bugs are a result of old or incompatible drivers. The lack of an up-to-date system can lead to lag, system errors or even a system crash (BSOD).

Both Nvidia and AMD has released their respective drivers, that are optimized for Total War Warhammer 3. The Nvidia one is called Game Ready Driver v511.79 and the AMD one is called Adrenalin 22.2.2 Optional.

Solution 4: Install the necessary Visual C++ components

You could be missing Visual C++ components as required in order to run Total War Warhammer 3. These important components can be found and installed from the vcredist folder, as located within STEAM’s common shared folder.

Program path/directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\vcredist

These are the solutions that have proven to be the most effective. There are some more, but I didn’t include them, because I got no confirmation about them working, from the community. If you want to check out the other solutions, that are not mentioned here. Check out this article from Sega Support. If none of this end up working for you, just go ahead and contact Sega Support. They are pretty active, at the moment.
