Fix Star Wars Jedi Survivor Won’t Launch and Crashing at Startup on PC

Jedi Survivor won’t launch crashing – After a ton of trailers, leaks, and delays, Jedi Survivor is finally available for people to try. The game is a sequel to Fallen Order, and just like the previous title, Jedi Survivor manages to maintain the same quality.

There is no doubt that SWJS is an awesome game, but that doesn’t take away the fact, that the PC version has a ton of technical issues. People are experiencing crashing and launch issues constantly with the PC version Jedi Survivor.

Anyway, I have included some working fixes, that have been recommended by either Jedi Survivor players, who have managed to fix their crashing and launch issues, or by EA.

Fix Star Wars Jedi Survivor Won’t Launch and Crashing at Startup on PC

Before you move further in this article, I would like you to just restart your PC once. You won’t believe how many Reddit posts I have seen till now where people are saying that Star War Jedi Survivor magically stopped crashing for them after just a simple PC restart. So try that, and if it doesn’t work, come back to this article again.

Okay, you are still reading, which means the restart didn’t do the job for you. Here are some fixes you can try.

Roll-back or upgrade your GPU driver

I went through some posts on Reddit and Steam. I saw some players claiming that they fixed the issue by rolling back their driver to an older version. And I also saw some users claiming that they fixed the crashes by just upgrading their driver to a newer version.

If you don’t know, NVIDIA has already released a driver optimized for Star Wars Jedi Survivor. Here are the links:

In case of AMD, I am writing this article on the day of release, and there isn’t any driver available for SWJS. If they release one, I will update this article immediately. If you just want to download a driver, here is the link:

Run Jedi Survivor as admin

Instead of running SWJS via Steam or the EA app, simply go to the folder where you have installed Star Wars Jedi Survivor, right-click on .exe file of the game, and click on ‘Run as administrator.’ I was recently facing crashes with Forza Horizon 5, and this did the job.

Asus Services and Utilities are causing Star Wars Jedi Survivor to crash

Asus application causing crashing in Star Wars Jedi Survivor

I remember seeing some Reddit posts where Asus Motherboard users have said that they fixed the issues by just terminating the Asus services and utilities running in the background.

So if you have utilities like Asus Aura, Armoury Crate, Asus GPU Tweak, etc., running in the background. Close them. In fact, if you have stuff like Razer Synapse, Lenovo Vantage, running. Terminate them.

Make sure your GPU is not overclocked

Overclocking now is not used to be a few years ago. Use your default clock speeds if you are using an overclocked GPU/CPU.

An unstable GPU or Processor could cause a lot of issues if it is not being able to draw enough power from the power supply unit. Also, terminate any overclocking that is running in the background. I am talking about software like MSI Afterburner.

Check if you have Steam Overlay and Steam Input disabled for Jedi Survivor or not

How to disable Steam Overlay for Star Wars Jedi Survivor

A lot of people have managed to fix the launch issue by just turning off the Steam Input Per-Game setting. Here is how to do it:

  1. Launch Steam.
  2. Go to your Library.
  3. Right-Click on Star Wars Jedi Survivor.
  4. Select Controller.
  5. Set ‘Override for Star Wars Jedi Survivor’ to ‘Disable Steam Input’.
  6. Try launching the game again.

The Steam Overlay might be causing Star Wars Jedi Survivor to crash at the start. Try turning it off.

  1. Go to your Steam Library.
  2. Right-click on Star Wars Jedi Survivor.
  3. Select Properties.
  4. Under the General tab, uncheck the box next to Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game.
  5. Restart Steam.

Check if your Antivirus software is blocking Jedi Survivor or not

Check whether your Anti-virus software is blocking SWJS. This has happened to a lot of games last year. Even some AAA titles had this issue. The jedisurvivor.exe file may be getting silently quarantined by some antivirus software, preventing the game from launching. Therefore, you may need to disable Real-Time Scanning function or Real-Time Protection function of your Anti-virus to play. If you do not want to completely disable the software, then you will have to add the .exe of Star Wars Jedi Survivor on the Exceptions list of your AV Software.

Set Settings to Low (For users who have managed to launch the game)

Let’s be honest, Jedi Survivor on PC is not the most optimized title. It has Ryzen 5 5600x and RTX 2070 listed under recommended requirements. This means you need to have these specs in order to play this game at 1080p 60 fps, which is like the bare minimum quality. Also, the game is 155 GB, so an SSD is highly recommended.

Make sure you have the Prerequisites for Jedi Survivor

Also, make sure that you are using the latest version of Visual C++ redistributable, as there’s a chance it hasn’t been installed correctly.

Common Fixes that ‘might’ work

These are all the basic fixes that are available at the moment. They most probably won’t work. Nothing wrong in trying, though:

  1. Try repairing or verifying the game via EA app or Steam.
  2. Set Laptop’s preferred graphics processor to the Dedicated one, from your GPU Control panel.
  3. Re-install the game in a different location if nothing else works.

Now, you have to realize that the reason for crashes and launch issues could be different in different systems. Due to that, it is impossible for a single fix to get rid of all the errors. If you have managed to find a fix that works, please let us know in the comment section below. I was talking to a visitor of my website on insta, where he was telling me how COD MW2 started randomly failing after the recent update. His issue was his PC didn’t have enough. He then went ahead and added an extra 8 GB Ram stick, and the game hasn’t crashed for him since then. And this is how fixes work. They vastly vary from user to user.

The good news is EA is well aware of these issues, and is working on a patch at the moment. Expect an update very soon. You can post your Star Wars Jedi Survivor Technical Issues here.
