Fix Forspoken Won’t Launch and Crashing at Startup on PC

Forspoken won’t launch crashing – The big launch of 2023, Forspoken, has finally arrived. Though the game has not managed to garner enough good reviews, it doesn’t bother gamers like me, who like to try almost everything.

But there is a problem. The PC or Steam players are experiencing technical issues in Forspoken. For some, Forspoken won’t launch, and for some, the game is constantly crashing, not allowing them to even make it to the main menu. Anyway, there are some fixes that are available. Let’s see how to fix the crashing and launch issues in Forspoken:

Fix Forspoken Won’t Launch and Crashing at Startup on PC

To fix the issues in Forspoken, it is best to go with the “Trial and error” method. You keep on trying fixes until the game stops crashing and starts without issues. Usually, for errors like these, it is impossible to figure out a single fix because games tend to crash for different reasons on different systems.

Verify the files of Forspoken

I am guessing that most of you will be having Forspoken on Steam. So, this is the first thing you should try. Yes, I know that this is an overused method. But you will be surprised to know how effective this method still is. To verify the files:

How to verify Forspoken Files on Steam

  1. Open Steam and go to your Steam Library.
  2. Find Forspoken from the list and right-click on it.
  3. Select “Properties”.
  4. Now go to the “Local Files” tab and start the Verification process from there.

Once you do so, Steam will start verifying the installation files of Forspoken and if there is a file missing or has gone corrupted, Steam will re-download the file.

Forspoken is quite big in file size, so it might take a while.

Try to turn off every single overlay

If you are running multiple overlays from different applications on your PC. I would suggest that you disable every single one of them.

You see, overlays from applications like Steam, Xbox Game Bar, Discord, Nvidia GeForce Experience, etc., are known to cause issues in games. So disable all of them.

Make sure that an Application is not causing the Crash

A specific utility or application could be causing Forspoken to crash. You need to find such applications and close them. Here is how to do it:

  1. Start by restarting your PC.
  2. Once you have logged back in, press Ctrl+Alt+Del on your keyboard to launch Task Manager.
  3. Click on the Startup tab.

  4. Right-click on each item and select Disable.
  5. Now, go ahead and restart your PC.
  6. Launch Forspoken and see if it starts or not.
  7. If you don’t face any crashes this time, enable the startup application one at a time to determine which one is causing the problem.
  8. You will need to restart between each application you enable.

Upgrade or Downgrade your Video Driver

So normally, I would ask people to upgrade their drivers. But in this case, I would recommend that you either upgrade or downgrade your GPU driver. The main objective is to make any sort of change to your display driver and see if it fixes the crashing and the launch issues or not.

Upgrade or Downgrade your Video Driver

It doesn’t matter whether you have an Nvidia GPU or an AMD GPU. The links to the Driver Download pages of both the vendors are below:

Check to see if you are using the updated version of Microsoft Visual Studio

If you are getting errors like “vcruntime140_1.dll missing” or “MSVCP140.dll was not found” whenever you are trying to start Forspoken on your PC. Then, you are missing the correct version of Visual Studio.

Please try downloading and installing the latest version of Visual C++ redistributable, as there’s a chance it hasn’t been installed correctly.

Check if your Antivirus is preventing Forspoken from starting

Anti-virus software programs have become a very common reason behind the launch and crashing errors in games. Antivirus, these days, monitor every single activity of yours. Some even ask for access at Kernel level.

This can cause disruptions to disk and network operations, leading games to crash.

Some games also use copy protection technology that can appear as malicious software to an AV scanner, resulting in potential false-positive alerts.

Try disabling your Anti-Virus software temporarily and then try to launch Forspoken, again. If you do not want to turn off your AV software completely, then at least consider adding the following to the exceptions list:

  • The .exe file of Forspken
  • Entire Forspoken folder
  • The .exe file of Steam
  • The folder where Steam is installed

Try to launch Forspoken directly using the .exe file

Instead of launching Forspoken via Steam, go to the location where you have installed the game.

  1. Just go to your Steam Library.
  2. Right-click on Forspoken.
  3. Now select Manage, and then Browse Local Files.
