Dying Light 2 crashing fix – Is Dying Light 2 crashing for you, as soon as you click start a new game? Don’t worry, a lot of users are experiencing this issue, and we have fixes.

Dying Light 2 is crashing as soon as users are click on “New Game”

After plenty of delays, Dying Light 2 is finally out. The game is doing really so far. Though, the reviews on the have been mixed so far, that doesn’t seem to be affecting the Dying Light fans that much. They are clearly enjoying the game a lot.

But as every AAA launch goes nowadays, Dying Light 2 is filled with bugs and technical error. At least, on the PC version, it is. Players are facing crashes left and right. Reports started coming as soon as the download button for the game became available on Steam.

Check out this comment from a Steam user:

Game is crashing as soon as I start a game.

I have not gotten a chance to play the game. I went into the menu, messed with the basic settings to my liking and familiarized myself with the controls. Clicked New Game -> Hard and it started to load, black screen and crash with no error.

I have an RTX 3070, and 5800X.

I also verified my game files and I’ve also restarted the game and moved the settings back to default. Game continues to crash at the same place. I’m also on Windows 11.

I am going to reinstall and update.

EDIT: Reinstalled the game and same issue happened again. Anyone else having this issue?

Quite a frustrating issue, if you ask me. Anyway, it looks like some people have already figured out some working fixes for the crashing. Let’s check them out.

How to fix the crashing issue in Dying Light 2

The first fix comes from Techland only. Here is what you need to do:

  1. Go to your Steam Library
  2. Right Click on Dying Light 2
  3. Select Properties
  4. Now, inside the “LAUNCH OPTIONS” box, type “/nolightfx”. This is what it is supposed to look like:

Now, if this doesn’t work for you, then you can try the fix that personally I figured out, and I haven’t crashed even once since I used it. So, when I first clicked on “New Game” in Dying Light 2 on my PC consisting of a RTX 3070 and Ryzen 5 5600x, I immediately got a black screen, and the game then crashed. So, in my case, it was not a “crash at startup”. I, then, went ahead, and fiddled with the settings menu for a bit, and I found the setting, that was causing the crash. On the “Advanced Video Settings” menu, you will notice a setting called “Asynchronous Compute”. Just turn it on.

Right now, I am running the game at max settings, with Ray Tracing at Ultra Quality, and I haven’t crashed even once since I turned the setting on.

Also, do not forget to download the new NVIDIA driver that provides optimal support for the Dying Light 2. The version is 511.65. Download and install it manually from here, or via GeForce Experience. AMD users can download the Adrenalin 22.2.1 Optional version from here. As it provides support for Dying Light 2.

If none of the fixes mentioned above are working for you, then I would suggest that you contact Techland Support. First, give this article a read, and once you are done, click on “New Support Ticket” from the top, to send a message to the support. You can also visit the Steam Discussions page of Dying Light 2, as you will find a lot of other people talking about this topic there.
