Far Cry 6 won’t Launch – Having trouble in trying to launch Far Cry 6 on your PC? Don’t worry, a lot of people are facing this issue. Here are some potential fixes that you can try.

Far Cry 6 won’t launch – Game failed to start – How to fix

One of the biggest launches of 2021, is finally here. Far Cry 6 is, undoubtedly, one of the most anticipated gaming titles of this year, and you can easily tell by looking at the comments it is getting from the community and the reviewers.

As we all know, Far Cry 6 action-adventure FPS game, that takes place on an island called Yara. The core gameplay is quite similar to the previous Far Cry titles, with some new additions here and there. The world of Far Cry 6 is the biggest one yet. You take the role of a Yaran armed forces officer called Dani Rojas. You do get the freedom of choosing the gender of your character at the start of the game.

Enough information about the game, now, let’s talk about the shortcomings. It hasn’t even been an hour, and I am already seeing a lot of posts popping on the official Ubisoft forums. And what are these posts about? Well, it looks like a lot of players are having problems at getting the game to launch. Now, for some, it could be because of the low powered hardware in their systems. But I am also seeing people with RTX 3080s and RX 6800 XTs complain about this. So one thing is confirmed, this problem has nothing to do with PC hardware. Maybe for some, but definitely not for everyone.

Now the main question is, are there any fixes for this issue? You see, the problem is, it is impossible for me to figure out specifically what is causing this issue. Startup issues can be triggered by various things. And the situation is different for different users. And if the issue is from the side of developers, then forget fixing it by yourself. Still, here are some fixes that you can try.

How to fix this issue?

Before we start, I just want to clear one thing. Far Cry 6 requires Windows 10 64-bit (20H1 or Newer) to run. If you have not updated your OS in a while, consider doing it. If you don’t know how to check your OS version, use the comment box below to let me know. I will reply with the accurate steps immediately. Let’s start the troubleshooting now.

The first thing you should consider doing is, try running the executable file or .exe file of Far Cry 6 as administrator. Just head over to the installation folder of Far Cry 6. Right-click on FarCry6.exe and select Properties. Now click on the Compatibility and check the box beside “Run this program as an administrator”. Start the game directly by double-clicking on the .exe file, instead of launching it via Ubisoft Connect or Epic Games Launcher. Check out this comment from forum user /Quadnick:

I closed the game and tried to re-open it and I got the same launch problem again. I got it to work a second time by by going to the install directory and right clicking FarCry6.exe and clicking Run as administrator.

If you didn’t know. Nvidia has already a new Game Ready Driver that provides optimal support for the Far Cry 6. The version is 472.12. Download and install it manually from here, or via GeForce Experience. Doing this would also fix any DirectX or Direct3D errors in Far Cry 6.

AMD has also launched a GPU driver for Far Cry 6. The version is called Adrenalin 21.10.1 Optional. Download and install it manually from here, or via AMD Auto detect.

Check whether your Anti-virus software is blocking Far Cry 6/Ubisoft Connect/Epic Games Launcher or not. This has happened to a lot of games this year, I remember AC Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion having the same issue when they launched. The executable of Far Cry 6 or the launchers associated with it may be getting silently quarantined by some antivirus software, preventing the game from launching. Therefore, you may need to disable Real-Time Scanning function or Real-Time Protection function of your Anti-virus to play. If you do not want to completely disable the software, then you will have to add FarCry6.exe and Ubisoft Connect/EGL on the Exceptions list of your AV Software.

Don’t have a third-party Anti-virus software on your system, and using Windows Defender instead? Here is how to add FC6 on the exceptions list of Windows Defender:

  • Go to Windows 10 settings
  • Click on Update & Security
  • Select Windows Security from the left sidebar
  • Click on Virus & threat protection
  • Click on Manage settings, located under Virus & threat protection settings
  • Scroll down and look for the Exclusion section
  • Under Exclusions, click on Add or remove exclusions
  • Click on Add an exclusion
  • Select File
  • Select the .exe or executable file of Far Cry 6
  • Restart your PC

Also try downloading and installing the latest version of Visual C++ redistributable, as there’s a chance it hasn’t been installed correctly. If you are getting errors like “vcruntime140_1.dll missing” or “MSVCP140.dll was not found”, this will fix that.

And finally, if none of the fixes mentioned above work for you then there is no other choice but to re-install the game completely. We are still testing the game. More fixes on the way!

If the problem you are facing is a serious one, then go here and submit a case to the Ubisoft support. And don’t forget to check out the Ubisoft Forum for Far Cry 6.
