Far Cry 6 is Crashing on PC and PS5 – How to fix

Far Cry 6 crashing – Is Far Cry 6 crashing a lot for you on your PC? This guide has some fixes that you can try to fix the issue.

Far Cry 6 is Crashing on PC and PS5 – How to fix

One of the most anticipated games of 2021, Far Cry 6, is finally here. The last Far Cry game, Far Cry 5, released more than 3 years ago. And here we are, ready for another one. As always, the game has been developed by Ubisoft. Ubisoft Toronto, to be more specific. This sixth installment is available now on all major gaming platforms.

Just like the previous titles, FC6 is also an action-adventure FPS game. No changes there. The campaign takes place on a fictional Caribbean island called Yara, ruled as a dictatorship by “El Presidente” Antón Castillo. You play as a guerilla fighter, called Dani Rojas(You can choose the gender), whose job is to topple Castillo and his regime. The core gameplay is quite similar to the previous Far Cry titles, with some new additions here and there. The world of Far Cry 6 is the biggest one yet.

Talking about the performance of the game on PC, Far Cry 6 is not well optimized at all, to be honest. It has the same issues that AC Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion had. Of course, players with RTX 3090s and Ryzen 9 5950Xs are not experiencing many problems. But things are not the same for every player. Not everyone is willing to drop $5000 on a PC. People with low-medium end hardware are facing crashing issues constantly. Even PS5 users are facing crashes. Which is a bit weird, if you ask me. Anyway, If you are one of them, then here are some steps you can follow to fix those issues.

How to fix the Crashes

Before you move further into this guide, take a look at the official minimum and recommended requirements of Far Cry 6 from the image below:

And also download the latest Nvidia or AMD GPU drivers, that have been specifically optimized for Far Cry 6. Nvidia users can download the latest drivers from here or via GeForce Experience. AMD users can download the latest drivers from here.

File Verification Method

Most of the game launchers nowadays offer ways to verify the game files of the games, which would repair the corrupted files that might be causing issues. Now, the feature works in different ways in different launchers. Here is how to do it on Ubisoft Connect (previously known as Uplay) and Epic Games Launcher:

Repair via Ubisoft Connect
  1. Launch Ubisoft Connect
  2. Go to “Games”
  3. Click on Far Cry 6
  4. Select Properties from the left bar
  5. Look under the Local Files section
  6. Select Verify Files

Repair Epic Games Launcher
  1. Launch Epic Games Launcher
  2. Go to your Library
  3. Take your mouse pointer on Far Cry 6
  4. Click on the Settings icon(three dots) beside the Launch icon
  5. Click on Verify
  6. Restart the launcher after the process is completed

Terminate programs that could potentially interfere with Ubisoft Connect and Epic Games Launcher

  • Turn off Ubisoft Connect overlay. Go to Ubisoft Connect Settings > General > Uncheck “Enable in-game overlay for supported games”

  • Turn off game notifications. Go to Ubisoft Connect Settings > General > Uncheck “Enable post game notifications for upcoming releases, events, promotions and additions to my games”
  • Disable background programs for recording and screen capturing like Nvidia Highlights, Windows Background Recording, Rivatuner Statistics, etc.
  • Create an exception in your Antivirus for Ubisoft Connect/Epic Game Launcher and FarCry6.exe.

Try to run your CPU and GPU at default clock speeds

Use your default clock speeds if you are using an overclocked GPU/CPU. An overclocked GPU or Processor could cause a lot of issues if it is not being able to draw enough power from the power supply unit.

Fresh Installation

If things are not working properly, then, go ahead and do a fresh installation of Fa Cry 6. Yes I know this is not the most convenient step. But trust me, this is the best thing to do in this situation.

For Epic Game Launcher users

So I saw a lot of EGL users bring up an issue that is making the launcher crash. Here is a Reddit post about it:

I pre-purchased Far Cry 6 on Epic games store, and it is in my library and today thought I could preload it from Epic Games store today, but it doesn’t give me the option at all, and it says underneath the cover “Ubisoft Login Required”. Yet if I tap on it, the whole launcher just crashes. Can anyone give me a solution please

The guy actually went ahead and found a solution by himself only. Here is the fix he recommends:

Wait I fixed it. You can actually link your ubisoft account and Epic Games accoubt without going through the launcher. All you have to do is go into your internet browser and paste this link in the url bar: epicgames.com/id/link/ubisoft

Once you typed that into the search bar it should prompt you to link your Ubisoft account and Epic Games account together(Login first, if you haven’t already). From there just follow the on screen instructions until your accounts are linked. Then launch the Epic Games app and go to your library. You should be able to install your ubisoft game and the “ubisoft login required” should be fixed.

Extra Fixes for Far Cry 6 PC

You can also try some of the fixes listed here. The fixes you will find there are completely different from the ones listed here. And since both the issues are more or less similar, some steps might end up working.

We are still testing the game. More fixes on the way!

Crashing fix for PS5 users

Far Cry 6 is crashing for PS5 users as well. And most of them are getting the error CE-108255-1 after the crash. After doing some research, there is one thing I found out. Games that have Ray-tracing are more likely to crash than games that don’t. And Far Cry 6, even though it is made with AMD instead of Nvidia, this time, does have support for Ray-Tracing. This actually reminds me of a Reddit post for Watch Dogs Legion. Check it out:

If I am being honest, I haven’t tried the PS5 version of Far Cry 6 yet. But I would suggest that you turn off Ray-tracing to fix the Far Cry 6 crashing issue on PS5.

Far Cry 6 Support

If the problem you are facing is a serious one, then go here and submit a case to the Ubisoft support. And don’t forget to check out the Ubisoft Forum for Far Cry 6.
