Far Cry 6 Download Stuck on Ubisoft Connect – Downloading at slow speed – How to fix

October is finally here, which means it is time to get ready for the barrage of AAA releases, that have already started coming towards us. And it starts with one of the biggest releases of 2021, Far Cry 6. 2021 has been a weird year for gaming, to be honest. Most of the big games that have released until now, has received mixed reactions. Hopefully, that is going to change with Far Cry 6.

The game has released on all the major platforms, and Far Cry fans are rushing to download and play the game. While I didn’t see a lot of movement on the forums dedicated towards the console version of the game, I am seeing plenty of posts popping up on the Ubisoft PC forums. Let’s just say, Far Cry 6 PC is not treating every user equally. The Ubisoft Connect version, to be more precise.

It looks like, a lot of people who are trying to download Far Cry 6 via Ubisoft Connect(previously known as Uplay), are facing some speed and installation issues. The download is getting stuck for some. While for some, the download is quite slow. Let me be clear, I did not face any such problem during my installation. Also, it looks like the issue is more prominent on Ubisoft Connect, when compared to Epic Games Store.

Now, this makes sense in case of users who do not have a high-speed network. But, to my surprise, I am also seeing users with fiber connections and high download speeds, complain about this. According to them, the installation bar is reluctant to move or make any sort of progress, no matter what they do. So, is it a bug that is causing all these?

Why is my Far Cry 6 download stuck, and how to fix it?

To be honest, download issues at launch day are very common in Ubisoft AAA titles. I remember, people were facing this issue with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla as well. Majority of the time, the reason behind slow download speeds are overloaded servers. I mean, probably a million players are trying to download at the same time. If you just wait a few hours after the release, you can avoid problems like these. If you check out my Far Cry 6 download graph, you will see that the download was stuck at 0B/s for a while, then the download speed rose to 17MB/s for a few seconds, and went back to 0B/s again.

Anyway, before we move any further in this article, there are some basic stuff that I would like you to try, and these fixes work most of the time:

  • Pause your Far Cry 6 download on Ubisoft Connect > Wait for a minute > Your download speed should come down to 0B/s > Resume the download
  • You can do the exact same thing on Epic Games Store also. Pause, wait, and resume
  • The second thing you can do is, restart Ubisoft Connect, or your entire PC (Works every time)
  • Finally, restart the entire download. It doesn’t matter, even if you have already downloaded a hefty chunk. It is better than being stuck at the same place for 2 hours. Cancel the download > Go to Add or remove programs > Uninstall Far Cry 6 > Start the download again

Okay, this ‘download stuck’ issue, is not something that is exclusive to Far Cry 6 only. I have personally gone through this multiple times. And most of the time, one of the steps mentioned above, did the job for me. These might be basic, but they sure are effective. Of course, these steps are for those users who are legit having trouble in downloading the game(I have explained this thoroughly, keep reading). Before that, you have to make sure that the issue is not from your end. Check your Internet connection, and make sure that it is working properly. Download another game from your Ubisoft Connect library to check whether you are getting the download speed you are supposed to get. You can also try clearing your Ubisoft Connect Game Installer cache.

  1. Launch Ubisoft Connect
  2. Click on the ‘Icon with 3 lines’ located on the top-left
  3. Select Settings
  4. Click on Downloads
  5. Now click on the ‘Delete all game installers’ button, and delete the cache

  6. Also, make sure that you don’t have ‘Limit bandwidth usage’ ticked

What might actually be the issue

Okay, time for the main point. You see, there is a huge chance that neither a bug is causing this, nor any glitch. Ubisoft Connect doesn’t only download your games, but installs them too, along with other important installations that ship with the game. The latest DirectX, .net framework, Microsoft Visual Studio. All of these will get installed, and then the ‘Play’ button will become available on the launcher

When Ubisoft Connect is showing that your download speed is stuck at 0B/s, there is a chance that your Far Cry 6 download is complete, and the installation is taking place.

The full size of Far Cry 6 PC is something around 60 GB(excluding the extra 37 GB for HD Textures). So, by no means, Far Cry 6 is a small game. I personally did not face this issue because I am using a Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe SSD that has Read and Write speeds up to 3500 MB/s and 3300 MB/s respectively. But for normal HDD users, even if they have a 7200 RPM one, the entire installation process is going to take some time. And there is no way to speed the procedure.

I would suggest that you take a look at the official Ubisoft Forum page for Far Cry 6. You will find a lot of players discussing these exact same issues.
