The game already had performances issues like random crashes, lag, stutters, etc. But it looks like some more problems have started to surface. We are talking about the Black Screen bug.

Players are experiencing a completely black screen whenever they are launching the game or when switching to full-screen mode. So, is there a fix?

How to fix the black screen bug in Doom Eternal

[Note: Most of the methods written below have been recommended by Bethesda on their official “Launch FAQ and known issues” post. So these methods or steps are not something that we have discovered]

Method #1 –  Add exception to your Anti-virus

According to Bethesda, the black screen issue is being caused due to your Anti-Virus quarantining the DOOM Eternal executable. So all you have to do is add the Doom Eternal executable file to the exceptions list of your Anti-virus.

If you are not using any third-party Anti-virus then add the exception on your Windows Defender. Here is how to do it:

  1. Open Windows Settings
  2. Select Update & Security
  3. Select Windows Security
  4. Click on Virus & Threat Protection
  5. Then under Virus & Threat Protection Settings click on Manage Settings
  6. Now scroll down until you find Exclusions
  7. Under Exclusions click on Add or remove exclusions
  8. Click on Add an Exclusion
  9. Select File
  10. And then select the Doom Eternal executable file or the .exe file located inside the Doom Eternal installation folder
  11. Restart your PC

Method #2 – Install the latest Nvidia or AMD graphics drivers

Bethesda has recommended some specific driver versions that are optimized specifically for Doom Eternal. They are:

AMD:

  • Win7-Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-20.3.1-Beta-Mar6
  • Win10-Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-20.3.1-Beta-Mar6
  • Win 8 – Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.10.1

NVIDIA:

  • 442.74 Win7 Win8 64bit Game Ready Test Driver
  • 442.74 Win10 64bit Game Ready Test Driver
  • 442.74 Win10-DCH 64bit Game Ready Test Driver

Here are the link to those drivers:

Method #3 – Turn of Depth of Field

If you are witnessing black screen or black particles on your screen while playing Doom Eternal, it might be because of the Depth of Field setting located in the graphics settings.

Just go to Settings, click on video, scroll all the way down and turn off the Depth of Field setting.

Right now these are all the fixes we have for the black screen issue in Doom Eternal. We will keep on adding more as we keep on finding more. Also the devs are working constantly to solve these issues. Just be patient and you would be able to play the game without any problems in no time.
