The latest Exotic weapon that has arrived in Destiny 2 is a Trace Rifle called Ruinous Effigy. It is a very unique weapon and there is nothing like it in Destiny 2. Enemies eliminated with the Ruinous Effigy turn to void transmutation spheres which you can then pick up and use to melee other enemies.

Getting the catalyst for Ruinous Effigy is really simple and easy after you have managed to obtain the weapon. It is very funny seeing how easy it is to get the catalyst for Ruinous Effigy. When getting the gun involves a really long process.

To get the catalyst all you have to do is eliminate an enemy with the void sphere that has dropped after you have eliminated an enemy with the Ruinous Effigy. The catalyst should drop after your very first elimination with the void sphere.

Ruinous Effigy Catalyst – Description

The Catalyst upgrades the weapon to a Masterwork. It will generate Orbs on multikills and gain a tracker that displays the number of combatants defeated with it. The Masterworked weapon will also receive additional capabilities.

With the Catalyst upgraded “This weapon deals increased damage against targets damaged by Transmutation spheres”.

How to Unlock/Upgrade the Catalyst

You have to either defeat 5000 combatants using this weapon or with the Transmutation spheres, or destroy Eyes of Savathun to unlock this upgrade.
