Looking at the game you might think that the game might not be too demanding. But that is not the case. Code Vein might not be as demanding as games like Borderlands 3 or Ghost Recon Breakpoint but you still need a low-medium end gaming PC to play this game. It is true that the minimum system requirements states that you only need a GTX 760 or a Radeon HD 7850. But we all know how well the game will run on the above mentioned graphics cards. We tried playing the game on a GTX 960 2GB and it was stuttering like anything. One thing that needs to be mentioned here is this game has Denuvo support and Denuvo has been known to affect the performance of games heavily. Maybe it is the case with Code Vein as well.

Update your video or graphics drivers

People often tend to ignore driver updates and sit with buggy or unoptimized drivers. Outdated drivers could be the reason behind many performance issues on your system. Therefore it is always recommended that you keep your drivers up-to-date.

Best or Optimal Graphics Settings for Code Vein

We decide to fiddle with the in-game graphics settings of Code Vein on our trusty medium end gaming PC. Here are the specifications of our game rig:

  • CPU : Intel i3 8100
  • GPU : MSI GTX 1050 ti 4GB
  • RAM : 16GB DDR4 2400mhz
  • HDD : 1 TB 7200 rpm
  • Monitor Resolution : 1920×1080

Here are the settings we decided to go with:

Go to Settings > Graphics Settings

Basic Settings

Screen Mode : Full Screen

Frame Rate Cap : 240 [Lower this down if you want more stable fps]

Anti-Aliasing Quality : Highest

Post-Processing Quality : Highest

Shadow Quality : Highest

Texture Quality : Highest

Effects Quality : Highest

Advanced Settings

Draw Distance : Farthest

Anti-Aliasing Processing : Temporal AA

SSAO : On

Motion Blur : Off

Vsync : Off

Film Grain : Off

Material Quality : High

Depth of Field Quality : Highest

Though most of the settings are set to ‘Highest’, we still managed to get well over 60 FPS. So, if you have a GTX 1050 ti or a RX 560 then you can enjoy Code Vein without sacrificing much on the visual quality. But if you are using GPUs like the GTX 960 or the GTX 750 ti then you might have to turn few settings down a level to get a smooth experience.

Keep your Windows OS updated

If you are a Windows 10 user then you should definitely consider updating your OS. Microsoft has been shipping a whole lot of buggy updates recently. The Windows 10 KB4512941 update that was released few days ago gave some serious trouble to gamers all over the world. From high CPU usage to constant stuttering while playing games or running heavy applications, people had to face everything. And who knows, there might still be some users who have not updated their Windows since then out of fear and are still facing performance issues. So check whether you have pending Windows updates or not and then update your OS. Here is how to do it:

  • Go to Settings
  • Go to Update & Security
  • Click on Check for updates
  • Wait for the updates to get installed
  • Restart your PC

Try using Windows Game Mode

If you are a Windows 10 user then you are probably already aware of the Game Mode feature in Windows 10. What Game mode does is it prevents Windows Update from performing driver installations and sending restart notifications and it also helps your system towards achieving more stable frame rates depending on the specific game and system. Here is how to turn on Game Mode:

  • Press the Start button
  • Click on Settings
  • Select Gaming
  • Now select Game Mode for the side bar
  • Turn Game Mode On

For Nvidia Users

The first thing you should do is click on ‘Adjust image settings with preview‘ located on the left side under 3D settings and make sure that ‘Use the advanced 3D image settings‘ is selected. Now:

  • Open Nvidia Control Panel
  • Click on Manage 3D settings on the left bar
  • Click on the Program Settings tab
  • Locate The Code Vein from the drop down menu under “Select a program to customize”
  • If you don’t see the game on the list then click on the Add button and another list will appear
  • If you still cannot spot the game then you need to add the .exe file manually.
  • Click on Browse
  • Locate the folder where you have installed the game
  • Select the executable file or the .exe file which in this case should be codevein.exe
  • Once you have successfully added the game, you will then see the program settings become available for the game
  • Now tweak the following settings:
    Threaded Optimization : On
Power Management : Prefer Maximum Performance
    Low Latency Mode : Off
Texture filtering – Quality : Performance

Verify the game files of Code Vein on your PC

If the game is missing some important file then it could end up being the worst experience for you while playing it. You can verify the in-game files of Code Vein and if the game is missing a file then Steam will automatically download it. Here is how to do it:

  • Launch Steam
  • Go your library
  • Right click on Code Vein
  • Select Properties
  • Go to the Local Files tab

It will take some time so be patient. Then restart Steam once the process is completed.
