Baldur’s Gate 3 Stuttering and Freezing fix – Baldur’s Gate III is a turn-based RPG developed and published by Larian Studios. It is the third main installation in the Baldur’s Gate series, and is based on the tabletop role-playing system.

The game offers both a single-player and coop/multiplayer element. Players can create one or more characters and form a party along with computer-generated characters to explore the game’s story. Optionally, players can take one of their characters and team up online with other players to form a party.

You need to first make sure that your system can handle Baldur’s Gate 3. The official recommended requirements state that in order to play Baldur’s Gate 3 at 1080p 60 FPS on your PC you need to have a graphics card whose performance is similar to a 1060 GB or a RX 580. And a processor similar to a Ryzen 5 1500x or a Intel i7 4770k. You also need 16 GB of RAM on top of that. So, even though Baldur’s Gate 3 might look like a light title, it is not actually. You do need a decent gaming rig.

Update video drivers

Though, neither Nvidia nor AMD has released drivers specifically optimized for Baldur’s Gate 3, it is wise to update your graphics drivers to the latest versions to avoid crashes. Here are the links:

Install the latest build of Windows 10

Baldur’s Gate 3 only runs on Windows 10, that too on 64 bit. So Windows 7 and 8.1 users are out of luck here. Now, Microsoft is known for pushing a ton of updates for Windows. Some end up being good while some end up causing a lot of performance issues. Fortunately, the latest build of Windows 10 is probably the most stable version of Windows we had in a while. So update your OS to the latest version.

  2. Click on Update & Security
  3. Click on Check for updates
  4. Wait until all the updates are installed
  5. Restart your PC

Graphics Processor (For Laptops with Nvidia Graphics Cards)

Considering that a lot of people like to play games like Baldur’s Gate 3 on their gaming laptops, a lot of times they forget to switch to their dedicated graphics card. If your laptop features a Nvidia graphics card inside then you need to make sure your laptop is using that instead of the low powered integrated one.

  1. Launch Nvidia Control Panel
  2. Click on Manage 3D settings located on the left side
  3. Click on the Program Settings tab
  4. Under “Select a program to customize” select Baldur’s Gate 3
  5. If it is not there then click on Add and then select it
  6. Now set “Select the preferred graphics processor for this program” to “High-performance NVIDIA processor

Disable Steam Overlay

  1. Launch Steam
  2. Go to Steam Settings
  3. Click on the “In-game” tab from the left
  4. Uncheck “Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game”

Clear the temporary junk files on your PC

  1. Go to the Start menu on your Desktop.
  2. Press the Windows key+R at the same time.
  3. Type in %TEMP% and press Enter.
  4. Select All (Edit > Select All or Ctrl+A).
  5. Click the Delete key.

Try Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling

If you have the latest build of Windows 10 (2004) then you should make use of the brand new feature called hardware-accelerated gpu scheduling. If you have a decent graphics card then you might actually benefit from this. Here is how to turn it on:
