A Plague Tale Requiem Best Graphics Settings

This guide will show you the best graphics settings for A Plague Tale Requiem PC for medium-end GPUs. You will have a smoother experience in-game, and it might also help you eliminate various performance issues if you are having any, of course.

The most demanding title of 2022, is finally here. I am obviously talking about A Plague Tale Requiem. Who else? Little info about the game, A Plague Tale Requiem is an action-adventure game developed by Asobo Studio and published by Focus Entertainment, and is the direct sequel to the 2019 title, A Plague Tale: Innocence.

The game was released for Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and Series S in October 2022.

The main plot of the game follows siblings Amicia and Hugo de Rune who embark on a journey in Southern France, to find a cure for Hugo’s blood disease. They will also have to save themselves from the soldiers of Inquisition and, primarily, from the rats, that are spreading the black plague.

A Plague Requiem running on RTX 3060 Ti

Speaking about the performance of the game, there is not much I can say here. The title is extremely demanding, and even my RTX 3070 Ti is struggling to maintain a constant 60 FPS at 1440p on Ultra Settings.

Which, in my opinion, is a huge deal. I can only imagine the problems, people who are still using the RTX 2000 series or the GTX 1000 series, are going to face.

Anyway, the game does provide some Graphics Settings to play with. It is nothing spectacular. I have seen smaller games than this have more Graphics Settings. I mean, there is no Field of View option, no FSR, no setting for Ray Tracing, etc. You get the point.

I only tested the game on my RTX 3060 Ti and 3070 Ti, and didn’t bother testing it on the RTX 2060, or the low-tier GPUs. What’s the point? This is our reality now. RTX 3070 is the new GTX 1060.

Here are the ‘A Plague Tale Requiem Graphics Settings’ that I am using currently for my RTX 3060 Ti to get decent FPS on 1440p, which I think are the best:

A Plague Tale Requiem Best Graphics Settings

  • Vertical Synchronisation: No [I didn’t notice any Screen Tearing, so I decided to keep this disabled.]
  • Screen Resolution: 2560×1440 [These settings are specifically optimized for the 1440p resolution. If you are using a 1080p monitor, just turn off DLSS, and use the same settings.]
  • Resolution Scale: 100% [Don’t touch this. Lowering this will cause the game to look blurry or fuzzy.]
  • Display Mode: Fullscreen [Fullscreen gives the best performance.]
  • NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution: Quality [Anything other than ‘Quality’ makes the game look a bit weird. I mean, there is already forced Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain in the game.]
  • Motion Blur: No [I kind of got a bit nauseous due to the motion blur of this game(lol). I had to turn it off]
  • Chromatic Aberration: No [A trash setting. Why does this setting exist again?]
  • Graphics Preset: Custom
  • Draw Distance: Medium [Draw Distance is pretty demanding in this game. Medium is the way to go here.]
  • Shadow Maps: Medium [Shadow Mapping is one of the most demanding settings in this game. But setting it to ‘Low’, makes things look bad.]
  • Volumetric Light: High [Saw no effect on performance.]
  • Ambient Occlusion: Medium [Low and Medium are literally the same. High and Ultra has a minor impact on FPS.]
  • Depth of Field: Ultra [Doesn’t have any effect on performance.]
  • Contact Shadows: Medium [Another demanding setting. Again, Medium is the best option here.]
  • Light Shafts: Ultra [So many settings that have little to no impact on performance.]
  • Screen-space Reflections: Medium [SSR is quite demanding in Requiem. High and Ultra will cause your FPS to take a deep dive.]
  • Texture Quality: High [In my opinion, High is the best option here. Doesn’t tank the performance as bad as Ultra, and doesn’t make the game look as bad as Medium.]

A Plague Tale Requiem Graphics Settings for best performance

Pretty ‘meh’ combination of settings, don’t you think? I expected more stuff.

Didn’t bother testing the game on Low-tier GPUs like GTX 1650 or GTX 1050ti, because let’s be honest, there’s no point.

A Plague Tale Requiem PC Performance Analysis

MINIMUM FPS (1% Low) AVERAGE FPS MAXIMUM FPS
13 FPS 62 FPS 368 FPS (lol)

A Plague Tale Requiem performance on RTX 3060

To be honest, I am not that surprised with the performance of this game. When the developers first let out the recommended requirements, they made it pretty clear that this game is not for every GPU. With that being said, should you try this game on a low-tier GPU? If you have something like the GTX 1660 Ti or the RTX 2060 and you have the game on Game Pass, then I would say that you should definitely try it. If you are okay with playing games at 30 FPS then it shouldn’t be a problem to you.

There is no doubt that A Plague Tale Requiem is an awesome title, and the 8/10 IGN score backs it up. But it is such a shame that a lot of PC users who are not sitting with a good GPU or didn’t get a chance to buy a decent GPU due to the mining fiasco, won’t be able to play this game properly.

The funny thing, despite the game being so demanding. I didn’t witness a lot of performance issues. Yes, there were minor stutters here and there. But that was due to shader caching doing its job whenever I was entering a completely new area.

Overall, I would say, that if you have anything better than the GTX 1660, and you are at 1080p, go and buy the game. You shouldn’t face as many issues as some users are claiming over the forums.
